NALA SINEPHRO
‘Endlessness’
(London via Belgium)
There’s a real power to the gentleness that Nala Sinephro exhibits on her second LP Endlessness. A sonic strength that remains constant between the ever-winding synths and soothing off-kilter drums. Each brush draws you in a little closer—urging you to listen more intently to the subtleties that so beautifully blend, layer upon layer.
The London-based, Carribean-Belgian artist has delivered an extraordinary follow up to her critically acclaimed debut Space 1.8 (2021). Sinephro’s instinctive jazz sensibilities are what make this album so magical; an emotive composition of tracks with clever ambient and electronic touches throughout. It feels both understated and hugely progressive all at once. But maybe this effortlessness is precisely what makes it so charming.
The record sees contributions from some of London’s best musicians, from the likes of Ezra Collective (James Mollison), Black Midi (Morgan Simpson), Sheila Maurice-Grey (Kokoroko) and more. It’s hard to pick a standout track as new attachments form with every listen, but ‘Continuum 6’ struck a cord with its exploration and urgency—displaying Nala’s full range of sonic brilliance.
